24 Abr The Reanimation and Critical Care Unit makes visiting hours more flexible as part of the Humanization Improvement Plan
Reanimation Unit of the Anesthesiology Service of the University Clinical Hospital of Valencia allows relatives and caregivers of patients admitted for long stays to have flexibility and extended visiting hours. This measure is part of the `Plan for the Improvement of Humanization in Critical Care Units‘ of the Council Regional of Universal Health and Public Health. The Anesthesiology and Reanimation Service, in line with this plan and with the aim of improving communication with family members, has drawn up a welcome guide informing patients, their families and/or carers of the new functioning of the Reanimation Unit. Among other novelties, the relatives and/or caregivers of the long-stay patients in this critical care unit will have an identification card that will allow them to access the unit over an extended period of time from 11 am to 10 pm. As Gerardo Aguilar, Section Chief of the Anaesthesiology and Reanimation Service, explained, «All these measures are aimed at improving the comfort of our patients. We also seek the integration and training of families in the patient care process as well as in their psychological support. The aim is to create a favourable and friendlier environment and better and more effective communication between patients, families and health professionals». The Reanimation Unit registers an average of 1,200 admissions per year. This is a critical care surgical unit in which patients are seen because of their severity profile, the type of surgery performed or the different complications that require intensive care and treatment. The patients are mainly post-operative with complex major surgery, severe trauma from emergencies and patients with serious complications admitted to the hospital’s surgical unit. ]]>
