One of the systemic measures that have been proposed to reduce the probability of medication errors is the proper identification of syringes and administration routes, as well as packages containing medication, with a standard labelling.

Different European countries as Australia, New Zealand and also United States have adopted an international code for labelling syringes in anaesthesia drug by its distinguished name and a colour representative of the pharmaceutical group they belong to.

Recent Helsinki Security Declaration on the part of the European Society of Anaesthesia (ESA) establishes the need that for the Anaesthesia Services are themselves equipped with these labelling systems concerning the syringes with injectable medication.
